After the addition of the famous A-yeast to the beer in 1873, Heineken soon won its first prizes in Paris, paving the way for a global market. After the repeal of prohibition in America, Heineken was the first beer to be imported there in 1933. Within 4 years, the brand experienced 600% growth in America. And when Freddy Heineken took over from his father in 1975, he turned Heineken into the second largest beer brand in the world in 20 years, active in more countries than any other brewer.
